Death Notice | Willmar Tribune, June 25, 1919, Image 5 OBITUARY FRANZ TOENSING With the passing of Franz Toesning on June 12th, 1919, the group of pioneer founders of the German Lurtheran church of Harrison became extinct. The deceased had attained the very mature age of 78 years and thus fell subject to illnesses attendant to old age. The late Franz Toensing was born in Hanover, Germany and at the age of twenty-seven years he left his native land and sought America. He located at Cleveland, Ohio and later removed to St. Paul, Minn. In 1871 he settled on a farm in the town of Harrison and became a well known figure in our county where he resided for many years. In 1896 he left Harrison and located first at Swede Grove and later at Alexandria where he passed away. His wife and two children Charles and Minnie have preceded him into the Great Beyond whie a son Henry of Alexandria and a daughter Mrs. William Dickman of Harrison and other relatives are left to mourn his demise. The remains were transferred from Alexandria to Harrison on June 16th and on the following day at 10:30 a. m. funeral services were conducted in the German Lutheran church at the latter place. Rev. F. C. Rathert of Harrison officiated at the funeral rites. Large numbers of old friends and neighbors attended the burial together with relatives from St. Paul and Alexandria, Minn. | |
