    Services for Henry C. Tonsing were held this afternoon in the Frey Funeral Home, the Rev. Alton Loar, officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

    Note to Police Gave Message of Death; Man’s Body is Found Slumped In Auto
    “By the time you get this I will be dead.”
    So said a not received Thursday at 9:45 a.m. by Port Clinton police department.
    The note also said that “if you go to my garage you will find my body.”
    The note was turned over to Sheriff Mike Hetrick, and an investigation revealed that contents of the letter were true. The lifeless body of Henry C. Tonsing, 60, was found in his car in the garage at his Route 2 home near the Tibbels residence, east of Port Clinton.
    The garage was closed and the car completely sealed with newspapers. Inside was Mr. Tonsing’s body. He had died of carbon monoxide, according to a verdict returned by Dr. C. R. Wood, Ottawa county coroner.
    The coroner also ruled that Mr. Tonsing had probably been dead since the day before.
    Surviving are his wife Thelma of Sandusky; daughters Mrs. Robert Christensen of Davidson Mich., and Mrs. Carol Wilhelms of Cleveland; sisters Mrs. Stella Gross, Mrs. Ruth Worbel and Dorothy Tonsing, all of Cleveland.
    Mr. Tonsing was born in Cleveland July 13, 1905, and had been prominent as a cottage and development operator in Danbury township.
    Last rites were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Frey funeral home in Sandusky, Rev. Arthur Loar of Emanuel First Church of Christ officiating. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery in Cleveland.  [10

      Henry ran away from home when he was about 13 years old. He went south and traveled along the east coast. He worked on a shrimp boat out of New Orleans. He eventually wound up in Texas and stayed with relatives who immigrated through Galvaston.

      Henry drove a gas delivery truck for Carleton Oil Co. during WWII and up until the family moved to Put-in-Bay, Ohio.
