    Died Suddenly of Heart Disease Friday--Cival War Veteran
    After arising, looking after his horse and chickens and eating his breakfast as usual, Thomas Hefy died suddenly of heart trouble at his home on Euclid avenue, Tuesday morning. With a complaint of being tired, he sat down in a chair and was found dead by his wife a few minutes later.
    Thomas Hefty was born in Switzerland in 1841, and came to New York city with his parents and several brothers and sisters when he was 11 years of age. In his early manhood he was employed as a painter in New York, later going to Indiana to take up farming. He was married there in 1850 to Miss Jalana Brand, to whom six children were born.
    He Joined the 29th Indiana regiment and fought in the civil war as a private soldier for two years. He came to Michigan about thirty-three years ago, settling on a farm in Gratiot county, ten miles north of St. Johns. About fourteen years ago he moved to St. Johns and a few years later his wife died. In 1906 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Rhoda Walker, who survives him.
    His six children survive him: Mrs. Lucinda Phippany of Greenbush; William of Greenbush; Mrs. Lizzie Walker of Pompeii; John of Duplain; Mrs. Ella Jones of Ovid township Mrs. Maud Foster of Gratiot county; also twenty grandchildren and two brothers, William of Hicksville, Ohio and John of Auburn, Ind.
    He was a Canton member of the St. Johns Lodge of oddfellows. The funeral services will be held at the home on Friday at 1 o’clock. Rev. C. W. Ballon of the United Brethren church will officiate. Burial will be made in the Sutton cemetery in Gratiot county.
