    Death Notice Charles Charley Maxey, 88, of Jefferson City died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born May 10, 1924, in Truman, Arkansas. He attended St. Louis area schools. Charley proudly served his country during World War II as a Navy SEAL from 1942 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific (4 stars). On September 9, 1950, he was united in marriage in Frankenstein to Evelyn Stieferman, who survives at their home. Charley co-owned and operated Maxey and Stieferman Heating and Cooling from 1957 until his retirement in November 1980. He was a farmer and enjoyed working around the farm, raising his cattle, hunting, fishing and riding four-wheelers. Charley loved his family and always treasured the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Other survivors include four children: Dianne Brandhorst and husband Larry of Jefferson City, Clyde Maxey of Jefferson City, Joyce Wilhelms and husband Mike of St. Charles, Kevin Maxey and wife Theresa of Jefferson City; 10 grandchildren: Brad Toebben, Chris Toebben, Jessica Kirsch, Wesley Brandhorst, DArcy Hemsworth, Clinton James Maxey, Kendra Maxey, Devin James Wilhelms (currently stationed in Sasebo, Japan, with the U.S. Navy/Divers Division), Kelsey Maxey, Kyler James Maxey; 13 great grandchildren; and 5 half-siblings: Irene Schollmeyer of Chamois, David Maxey of Chamois, Catherine Brown of Jefferson City, James A. Maxey of Boonville, and Judy Schmitz of Jefferson City. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Louise Maxey, on December 20, 1950; his parents, William Sullivan and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Maxey; his stepmother, Mary Louise Maxey, who raised Charley from childhood; one brother, Aaron Maxey; and one sister, Augustine Cone. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Dylan Schrader and Fr. Fred Elskamp officiating. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Cathedral of St. Joseph or Operation Tyler. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W.
