    KOSCIUSKO COUNTY WAR VETERAN DIES IN ELKHART
    William Nyce, who for over 60 years had lived on his farm six miles south of Syracuse, Ind, died at the Elkhart General hospital at 10 o’clock this morning. The body was taken to the farm home this afternoon.
    Mr. Nyce, who was 80 years old, was brought to the hospital on Tuesday, September 17, for an emergency operaiton for relief from gall stones. This operation was successfully performed and the patient was making a normal recovery when gangrene developed in one leg, resulting in his death.
    Mr. Nyce’s birth took place in Ohio on September 4, 1838. He served in the union army, and in later years was a members of the G. A. R. at Warsaw, which probably will have charge of the funeral. He was also a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. His wife died eight years ago. Surviving him are a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Popenfoose, whose home is near his own; a son, Charles Nyce of Hazenmore, Sask., and two granddaughters, Mrs. Melvin Davis of 122 State street, this city, and Mrs. Ray Kuhn of Pierceton, Ind. Mrs. Popenfoose has been in the city since the day her father was brought here.
