Well known in this area among builders and traders, he was born in Garrelsweer, province of Groningen, the Netherlands, Nov. 17, 1867, son of Nicholas Jonkman and Arendina Jager Jonkman. He came to the Untied States at the age of 23 and lived in Holland more than 50 years, coming here after spending a short time in Grand Rapids. He studied architecture in the Netherlands and America and and for many years was superintendent of the Holland Furnature factory. He and his cousin, the late Frank
