    CALUMET -- Victor Latvala, 78, of Calumet, died Saturday Dec. 2, 1989 in the Houghton County Medical Care Facility after a long illness.
    He was born in Finland April 14, 1911. He came to the United States with his parents, living in Minnesota for several years before coming to Calumet.
    He married Rose Stiglich in Calumet July 19, 1938. She died in October of 1988.
    Mr. Latvala was employed as a linotype operator for the Finnish Language Newspaper Valvoja and for 20 years was with the Daily Mining Gazette.
    He is survived by two sons, James of Calumet and David of Mohawk; one brother, Eero of Fergus Falls, Minn; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ryan Funeral Home, the Rev. Wayne Marcotte officiating.
    Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  [6
